Meet Peace, the CEO, founder and owner of the market-leading e-commerce business Nubia's Crown, providing stylish hair extensions for her fashion-conscious customers. Peace also has a very successful YouTube channel (please subscribe!) in which she vlogs her journey as an e-commerce entrepreneur, generously sharing her experience, tips and knowledge. In this, a recent vlog, completely unprompted by us, she discusses the Europe delivery solution she found with SAMOS (at 4:09 onwards).
Before the UK left the EU, Peace had a thriving European customer base, which she was keen to maintain after Brexit. She was conscious of the additional challenges that delivering to Europe would bring. Peace’s focus was to provide the best possible customer experience, including the delivery process. However, the parcel and mail carriers that she was using were unable to provide the service or pricing she needed.
We chatted to Peace about her experience trying to find the ultimate post-Brexit Europe delivery solution.
Post-Brexit: worse delivery service for higher fees
“After Brexit, my Europe customers were being charged VAT and other fees before delivery, and I didn’t want this negative experience to impact sales, so looked at other mail and parcel carriers to see if I could prevent this, but I didn’t have an IOSS number.” Peace continued, “I also found that [named parcel carrier] was not cost effective anymore and that rates and surcharges had increased significantly after Brexit.”
The only way to send products to customers without an IOSS number was by using a DDP service, but this came with a hefty surcharge, that meant shipping was too expensive and would put off customers from completing the checkout stage.
“I couldn't find what I really needed, but thought that there must be a solution out there for this - I’m the queen of finding what I need on the internet!”
Enter: SAMOS
Peace discovered SAMOS when Googling Europe delivery solutions. Among all the other ads and companies jostling to get on the first results page was content created by SAMOS showing how she could “ship into Europe hassle-free!”
Intrigued, Peace contacted SAMOS. As with all our new customers, we discussed her business needs and aspirations, how the SAMOS service works and how it meets her needs. Ultimately, it creates a solution whereby her customers see no difference in their experience of buying from her now than before Brexit.
The solution seemed obvious. The SAMOS service didn’t use the big parcel delivery companies that were having the problems in the first place and instead exported and routed parcels into Europe themselves in a unique way. Without an IOSS number, SAMOS was also able to charge back European import VAT (a bit like DDP) but without surcharging for it.
The rates were also super-competitive. For a £100 1kg order Peace was able to ship to Germany for £9.99 (delivery within 4 days), and have any VAT due invoiced back to her at cost.

Peace made sure these costs were covered at checkout stage with the customer, so no additional costs were coming out of her margins. Best of all, not one customer has ever been asked for VAT or any other charges on delivery. In fact, with the SAMOS service, this is impossible.
As with all other SAMOS customers, Peace is now confident that she can market and grow her business across Europe again, without the hassle and problems she had with all the other parcel delivery companies.
