As with many other European countries, Austria’s e- commerce saw a major boom during the Covid-19 pandemic, when Austrian consumers were limited to shopping in person only at supermarkets and pharmacies.

Other leading e-commerce companies are the German fashion platform Zalando.at, Ikea, apple.com and the German consumer electronics platform mediamarkt.at.
In 2025, Fashion is the largest market and accounts for 21.9% of the Austrian e-commerce revenue. It is followed by Electronics with 20.9%, Hobby & Leisure with 19.9%, Furniture & Homeware with 13.5%, DIY with 9.8%, Care Products with 8.6%, and Grocery with the remaining 5.5%. 5

Austria’s transportation infrastructure is sophisticated and allows for ease of delivery including in rural regions where one-third of the population lives.
