 Taiwan, e-commerce and logistics
==================================

Taiwan is a lucrative market for e-commerce
---------------------------------------------

With high internet usage, efficient logistics, and a strong appetite for overseas products, shipping from the UK to Taiwan offers huge potential for online retailers looking to expand globally.

In this guide, we’ll help you compare the fastest and cheapest ways to import your items from the UK to Taiwan, as well as exploring e-commerce opportunities, potential shipping problems and the best ways to ship internationally.

 Why ship to Taiwan?
---------------------

The island of Taiwan consists of a main island and several smaller ones. The capital – Taipei – is a bustling metropolis located in the north of the main island. Its situation – at the heart of the Asia-Pacific region – makes it a critical hub for global trade and commerce.

Although its geopolitical status is complex, Taiwan sees itself as distinct from the Chinese mainland and is a developed industrial nation with a thriving democracy. There are relatively few trade barriers in Taiwan and no significant trade restrictions – making it extremely commerce friendly.

Added to this, with over 23 million [1](#ref1) residents, many of whom are active online, Taiwan presents significant opportunities for businesses to reach a large, digitally savvy consumer base.

The e-commerce landscape
------------------------

Taiwan’s e-commerce market generated over NT$6.81 trillion (€200 billion) in 2022, including both B2C and B2B sales. Top e-commerce categories include Electronics, Food and Beverage, Apparel and Personal Care. [2](#ref2) Taiwanese consumers often shop on platforms and value convenience. Free shipping and fast delivery times are an influencing factor when they make their purchases.

Interestingly, it’s the adults aged 45-54 who are the most active shoppers online, followed by younger shoppers under 44. Overall, 51% of Taiwanese consumers shop online regularly — just below the global average of 58%. [3](#ref3)

The availability of global payment methods makes it convenient for consumers to shop and for businesses to sell to the Taiwanese market too. There is increasing consumer demand for products from overseas in Taiwan and many consumers go out of their way to purchase foreign goods online.

Opportunities
-------------

Taiwan has a high rate of social media usage. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram and LINE (a super app popular in Taiwan, Thailand and Japan) can act as great advertising vehicles for e-commerce businesses.

The number of e-commerce users in Taiwan is expected to amount to 10.3 million by 2030. [4](#ref4)

 Logistics
-----------

Taiwan’s compact size and well-developed logistics network allow for fast, cost-effective delivery of goods. For more information about how to post your items efficiently and at affordable rates, [contact us](mailto:info@samos-e.com).

Good to know
------------

Taiwan uses the Harmonized System (HS Codes) for shipping tariffs, which means its customs processes are similar to those in the UK and EU. Imports fall into four categories: Prohibited, Controlled, Permitted and Temporarily Suspended. Over 8,000 items are freely importable without a licence. However, restrictions exist on EU agricultural products and certain sensitive goods like automobiles.
