 Brazil, e-commerce and logistics
==================================

There is fast growing demand for e-commerce in Brazil
-------------------------------------------------------

As the 9th richest country globally [1](#ref1), Brazil is currently seeing a bit of an e-commerce boom. But how much does it cost to send a parcel or mail to Brazil? What are the postage rates and delivery times like? And how best can you secure a foothold as an international retailer in this dynamic market?

 Why ship to Brazil?
---------------------

Brazil is not only the most populous and largest country in Latin America. It’s also home to a vibrant tapestry of cultures and languages that sets it worlds apart from other countries in South America.

When it comes to e-commerce, Brazil remains the best performer in the region. In 2025, it’s expected that 94M Brazilians will make online purchases, up 3M when compared to 2024, according to [ABCOMM - Associação Brasileira de Comércio Eletrônico](https://abcomm.org/). [2](#ref2)

From fashion and furniture to cosmetics and car parts, cheap and efficient parcel delivery options are becoming essential for international businesses looking to cater to this growing demand.

The e-commerce landscape
-------------------------

Brazil stands out as a strong international e-commerce hub. According to PCMI data, the country boasts a healthy 90% penetration rate among the adult population. This is likely linked to Brazil’s robust fintech sector, with bank and digital payment penetration reaching 96% — one of the highest rates in Latin America.

This growth presents exciting opportunities for international sellers looking to expand. However, navigating the Brazilian market does come with some problems, particularly around shipping costs, postage, and customs clearance.

In August 2024, Brazil introduced a 20% federal import tax on international purchases up to US$50, known locally as the “taxa das blusinhas”. In 2026 this was cut to zero for purchases made through platforms certified under the government’s Remessa Conforme programme, although state ICMS tax still applies. [3](#ref3) Despite these changes, international sales are still on the rise, and cross-border e-commerce is expected to account for 7% of all online sales in 2025.

 Opportunities
--------------

The main segments with foreign sales penetration are travel (8%) and retail (6%) according to the [Brazil Country Commercial Guide](https://www.trade.gov/country-commercial-guides/brazil-ecommerce). [4](#ref4)

Top e-commerce portals in Brazil and market share according to Mercado e Consumo [4](#ref4)

1. Mercado Livre (35%)
2. Amazon Brasil (20%)
3. Shopee (15%)
4. Magazine Luiza (10%)
5. Americanas - B2W Group (8%)

 Logistics
-----------

Brazilian customs require several key documents for processing international shipments, including the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and certificate of origin. To avoid problems and ensure a smooth clearance process, we recommend submitting all forms accurately and on time.
