How to customs declare a parcel

To export goods from the UK to any country, including the EU, you need to make a customs declaration. To do this, you’ll need to provide the relevant customs forms, including a customs invoice with your parcel.

What is a customs declaration?

First thing that you need to know (and not everybody does) is that your parcel weight will be measured by your parcel carrier to work out the tariff.

How do I go about completing one?

When completing a customs declaration it is important to provide accurate information about your business and your shipment.

Completing the document can be complicated – large businesses often have dedicated in- house teams with expert knowledge and specialist software to do so. For smaller companies, it can be easier to let your dedicated shipping company – like SAMOS – look after the process.

To ship goods anywhere, even if you use a third party, you need an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number.
